RNDR Roadmap — Phase I: (✓)
The RNDR team is thrilled to announce the successful completion of the first phase of the project’s roadmap.
As this initial stage comes to an end, we wanted our community to have a clear view of what we’ve accomplished up to now and where that leaves us for Q2.
The end of March also marks the end of Q1 and the date that the RNDR team had set for Phase I completion. It is with great satisfaction that we can say that the team has successfully fulfilled the tasks described in the project’s whitepaper for these first months of work.
After the Genesis token sale ended last October, a team of five blockchain and OctaneRender Cloud (ORC) developers led by Kalin Stoyanchev (Project Lead) and Charlie Wallace (Chief Science Officer) worked to integrate the Render Token with the existing ORC to start building OTOY’s decentralized ecosystem.
OctaneRender Cloud (ORC) is a cloud render service that, as Jules Urbach, founder and CEO of OTOY explains, is the “first milestone in OTOY’s efforts to bring cloud-based GPU rendering to artists, designers, engineers, and small businesses everywhere who might not otherwise have the means to access powerful rack-based rendering solutions”.
Through the ORC web platform, content creators can upload files to render scenes without having the need to have powerful GPU hardware of their own and without having to worry about the security of their assets. Each file is encrypted during the uploading process and cannot be retrieved once on ORC.
Currently, OTOY hosts a website which centrally manages the results of render jobs along with their costs. OTOY’s vision is to distribute the framework of this existing rendering service through a token-based system built on the Ethereum blockchain.
The following demo shows the new workflow for purchasing ORC Credits with Render Tokens using Metamask wallet and the Brave Browser. ORC Credits are used to fund renders on OctaneRender Cloud. As we are still developing the RNDR ecosystem, Render Tokens (RNDR) currently need to be converted into render credits before being used on ORC. In the following weeks, there will be available new tutorials explaining in detail the purchasing process.
Our developers have been testing this integration for the last 60 days and confirmed through this experience that it is now possible for ORC jobs to run on the Render Network.
Our efforts are now focused on Phase II and its main objectives:
- Leverage our ecosystem to bring millions of users on-board with the existing network and create a simple user interface so that users and developers can utilize their GPU power for rendering and streaming jobs in exchange for Render tokens optimally.
- Launch alpha testing of the peer-to-peer network on the testnet, migrating to real tokens once functionality and user interface is stable.
- Launch initial beta testing to those who participated in the initial token sale on mainnet, with RNDR jobs being processed on the RNDR network.
