RNDR’s Debut at GTC 2018, NVIDIA’s Must-Attend GPU Event
Jules Urbach, OTOY’s co-founder and CEO, will be presenting RNDR at Nvidia’s GPU Technology Conference.
Jules and OTOY are both among GTC’s big names since 2010. Things have come a long way: in 2013’s edition he presented the OctaneRender Cloud Edition alongside Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang; this year he’ll introduce RNDR, a project that aims to decentralize OTOY’s rendering services through blockchain technology.
Each year, NVIDIA, a world leading GPU fabricator, holds a series of GPU Technology Conferences, commonly referred to as “GTC”. This annual reunion is the biggest event dedicated to this technology and its applications in an ever-growing number of fields, from high performance computing to virtual reality to self driving cars to anything else you can imagine — the possibilities are endless! Every year there is one main event and a number of regional versions in different countries worldwide, with China, Taiwan, Munich, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, and Washington DC scheduled for 2018.
This year’s edition kicks off on March 26th in Silicon Valley’s San Jose McEnery Convention Center, and offers four days of training, insights and direct access to experts from NVIDIA and from other leading organizations that are working with GPU technology in their fields of work. It’s a meeting point where attendees can catch up on the progress made in their fields of interest directly from experts, including GPU-related industries working for companies like Pixar, Google, Facebook, IBM and OTOY.
GTC gathers the very best of the world’s developers, designers, engineers, researchers and IT managers to share how GPU technology helps them address their graphic and computational challenges.
NVIDIA is expecting an attendance of around 8,000 people, a significant increase over their prior events. The event’s substantial growth over the past several years reflects the increase in the GPU demand from data centers and high-performance computing sectors. However, what really took this growth to the next level has been the boost in interest and development surrounding machine learning and artificial intelligence. Both of these innovative subjects will be GTC’s priority topics in this 2018’s edition.
Among the specialists that will be sharing their experiences and insights on their use of visual computing in particular fields is our very own Jules Urbach, CEO at OTOY and RNDR. A pioneer in computer graphics, streaming, and 3D rendering, Jules has been a household name in GTC since 2010. Jules Urbach shared the stage with NVIDIA Co-founder and CEO Jensen Huang during the opening keynote address at GTC 2013 to announce OctaneRender Cloud Edition, the very foundation of RNDR. He discussed how he sees the future of the rendering industry at GTC 2017 in the short term, and the role OTOY aims to play in democratizing media and workflows, presenting the company’s progress working towards that goal through major research and advances in their products, such as Octane Render.
In this year’s edition, Jules will be participating in a rendering panel and will also give two talks that are not to be missed:
Real-Time Raytracing and RNDR. The Path to Holographic Media
Jules’ last intervention in this year’s GTC will be about the latest trends in light field display and delivery ecosystems. He’ll be presenting a deep dive into OTOY’s RNDR network, discussing the goals and challenges of deploying a fully decentralized GPU ray tracing and streaming platform on top of the Ethereum blockchain. The talk will cover lessons learned from industry partners and stakeholders, and how future phases of RNDR will unlock modular IP rights management of holographic media and AR services through the blockchain. Jules will also share recent work within MPEG to establish global standards for holographic media and light field rendering that connect to OTOY’s ongoing Unity and Facebook 6DOF integrations.
Thursday, March 29th, 2:00 PM — 2:50 PM PST.
The Future of GPU Rendering
This panel brings together several of the world’s leading game engine and GPU ray tracing technologists and a pioneering user to discuss and debate how GPU ray tracing will transform the creative process in design, animation, games and visual effects.
