A Preview of the latest RNP, RNP-004: Compute Clients
Earlier this week a new RNP, RNP-004: Compute Clients, was presented for review to the Render Network community by ANTBIT.IO, a distributed cloud compute aggregator for AI / ML inference, training, hyperparameter tuning, and reinforcement learning. With an initial proposal vote scheduled for July 17th, 2023, the Render Network team wanted to provide community members who may not have seen this new RNP yet with a primer on what this new RNP is proposing and what changes it may bring to the Render Network.
RNP-004: Compute Clients
RNP-004 is a core-technical proposal that seeks to expand the use case for the Render Network through an external API. This API would allow users to access Render Network nodes and utilize their compute capabilities for tasks such as machine learning/training, inference and fine tuning functions. This would be the first major expansion of the Render Network outside of rendering and rendering-related work.
This API would be provided through ANTBIT.IO, who have also created this RNP itself. ANTBIT.IO is a protocol that would launch alongside this proposal in an Alpha state, and the ANTBIT team proposes that they would work alongside the Render Network Foundation team in order to facilitate improvements and support for the protocol.
Importantly, this new functionality would not be a requirement, but an opt-in feature for Nodes on the Network who would like to participate in the pool. All compute requests would be facilitated through ANTBIT, and as proposed, compute jobs would not take primacy over rendering jobs on the Network.
The proposal (RNP-004) is currently open for discussion and can be found here. The timeline surrounding the RNP is as follows:
- On July 17th, the Initial Proposal Vote will open, whereby users can cast their vote whether RNP-004 moves onto the next stage of the RNP process.
- The Initial Proposal Vote will close on July 20th, by which time a period of further review will commence if the proposal has passed.
- If the proposal has passed and moved on, the Final RNP Vote will open on July 26th, and will close on August 1st.
