RNP-008 Preview: Nosana Compute Client

A look into the Render Network RNP-008 for a new Nosana Compute Client

With the rapid expansion of AI, especially in Large Language Models (LLMs) and image generation, the industry is facing unprecedented demand for GPUs. This demand is leading to global shortages and pricing issues, impacting developers and researchers.

With the Open Compute Client passed in RNP-004, developers can leverage the Render Network’s decentralized GPUs to meet emerging demands of AI / ML computing.

RNP-008: Nosana Compute Client

Recently, the Render Network Foundation introduced RNP-008, proposing Nosana as the fourth Compute Client. Nosana, a DePIN, is streamlining the building, deploying, and monetizing of AI inference applications, offering robust support and a GPU marketplace.

The RNP-008 initial proposal voting is now live until January 25, 2024.

Nosana will serve as a bridge between the AI inference community and the Render Network’s decentralized GPU network by tackling 3 key industry problems:

1. GPU shortages
2. Idle compute issue
3. High public cloud pricing

As part of the technical integration, Nosana is proposing a Nosana-Render Working Group with a 30K RENDER token grant to integrate Nosana as a Compute Client.

The Nosana-Render Working Group will develop the essential infrastructure to meet the following objectives:

• Nosana-Render Connectors (50% grant)
• Direct connection to Nosana Network on Render Nodes (25% grant)
• Node Discovery (15% grant):
• Pre-loading AI Models (10% grant):

The purpose of this primer is to brief community members on the specifics of this new RNP and its proposed impact to the Render Network.

Key dates for the proposal include:

• The Initial Proposal Vote opens on January 22, 2024
• The Initial Proposal Vote closes on January 25, 2024 at 12pm PT
• If the proposal has passed and moved on, the Final RNP Vote opens on January 31st at 5pm PT, and will close on February 6th at 5pm PT.
