Renew Radar is a recurring feature that highlights some of the titles you may see on our screen in the coming months. We may not get to all of the featured films, but these are the movies on our radar.

Boots Riley, from the influential hip-hop group The Coup, turns his eye to filmmaking with his first feature SORRY TO BOTHER YOU. This hilarious film was met with high praise at Sundance and was one of the most inventive and audacious titles to come out of the festival.

SORRY TO BOTHER YOU is a sci-fi/social commentary/satire that tells the story of Cassius “Cash” Green climbing to the top of the telemarketing industry, but losing his identity in the process. Cash is played perfectly by Lakeith Stanfield, who you may recognize from last year’s award-winning Get Out or Donald Glover’s brilliant show Atlanta. Stanfield is supported by a dynamite cast including Tessa Thompson, Armie Hammer, Steven Yeun, and Danny Glover.

Boots Riley’s first film is a major statement — there will absolutely be more interesting stories to come from his imagination. This movie is wildly creative, utterly bizarre, and laugh-out-loud funny, blending a number of genres with a variety of filmmaking techniques, and tackling big, uneasy topics. We promise it will be the most unique movie you will see all year.
