What is Retrograde?
Like many film buffs, the video rental store was a special place for us growing up. Our weekly pilgrimage to that wondrous shrine offered a glimpse of the wider world of cinema that lied beyond the multiplex, and sparked our passion for film. We believe that the cult-classics we watched on repeat (entirely too close to the screen if our mothers are to be believed), and unsung favorites that we can still recite every word of from memory are just as deserving of a spot in the canon of great film as the movies you watched in film class.
We wanted to celebrate this bygone era, which is why we created Retrograde. This new series pays homage to your favorite video store staples by returning them to the silver screen, in all of their glory. On the third Thursday of each month from March through October, we depart from our our regularly scheduled programming and come together to enjoy these decidedly un-pretentious films. Whether you caught them in theaters when they premiered, watched them huddled around your parent’s television, or are seeing them for the first time, we’re thrilled to be able to share them with you.
The night doesn’t end when the credits start to roll
Catch up with us after these screenings for a special after party with our friends at Forest & Main Brewing Co., just two blocks down from the theater. In addition to the great food and drinks, we’ll also be hosting trivia, karaoke, games, and other surprises each month. After party tickets get you into the screening, and also include a drink voucher for that night’s gathering, as well as an original commemorative poster for the film. So join us for drinks, festivities, and more likely than not, a spirited exchange about which cut of Blade Runner is the best.
