We asked our mentors a few questions on location independence, inspired by the famous ‘Proust Questionnaire’. Their answers have been compiled in this series of blog posts. Through these windows into their lifestyle, we hope to discover more about them and what drives them to be untethered.

Marjolaine Savoie is a Yogi, mindfulness coach, entrepreneur & pop-singer. She is building the life of her dream abroad and spreading joy to elevate others.

Are you a remote worker, digital nomad or both?

I consider myself a digital nomad, although I love having a home base and travelling for shorter periods of time to a different location.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Having taken the leap of faith to build my own business and move to Europe with my boyfriend! My life is blissful and I am so grateful for my journey.

What is your most treasured possession?

I don’t really hold on to objects. It used to be really hard for me to let go of things, but today, I can’t say what is my most precious possession. Except for my body? I try to care for it as the most precious thing I have. And of course, my laptop is crucial for my job!

Where would you most like to live and why?

Anywhere sunny where there are suns & wave, but also a gorgeous fall with colourful leaves and a short but super snowy winter!! So I guess I would need to live in more than one place in a year! Ahah!

Right now, I love living in Germany for the sunny summer & soothing winter. It is also ideal to travel anywhere as it is pretty central. Perfect for a weekend escape.

What has been your biggest challenge when working remotely/as a digital nomad?

Getting a client flow in a saturated market. I think digital marketing is something that requires a lot of learning and trials.

Describe your most unforgettable travel experience

My road-trip in Ireland with my boyfriend was incredible. For 10 days, we slept in the car and drove through the most exciting landscape, while getting to meet locals to grab a cup of tea!

What do you wish you’d known when you started out as a digital nomad/remote worker?

Nothing! I love the process of discovering and letting things unfold. Of course, you need to have a strong mindset, be patient and be ready for a lot of ups & downs. It isn’t easy, but definitely worth it, and mindfulness can help you live the whole process more smoothly.

What is your greatest fear working remotely/as a digital nomad?

I don’t really feel fear at the moment. I try to see it this way: if something doesn’t go as I want or doesn’t feel right, I can always find a solution or take a new direction.

What is your greatest regret?

I am very happy with where I am right now. I can’t say that I have regrets. I always try to be true to myself and If I hurt people on the way, I try to apologize and come from a place of understanding. Living in the moment and empowering yourself by taking action is the key to a joyful life.

What, according to you, are the most important traits to have to embrace a location independent lifestyle?

Being positive, solution-oriented, curious, flexible, open to change, able to let go, adventurous and passion-driven!

What is it really like to be location independent? Share with us the real picture.

I made the choice to build my location independent business while having a stable home base. Right now, I hop in different coffee places to call it my office every day, and I go on occasional weekend or week escape to work remotely from time to time. I do work much more than 40 hours a week at the moment, as I have a clear vision and love to take steps towards it. It isn’t all pink, but it is all fun. Even the bad! I am building a strong foundation at the moment, to be able to live in different location one month at a time, but still keep a home base, as it is important for me. I like to take at least 1 full day off a week to disconnect, and practice self-care every day! While travelling, I either choose to work during the day or the evening and take the rest of the time to explore.
