The web is a unique environment which is constantly changing and evolving. Every year, some new trends are born, some fade and some just continue to prosper. In this article we will take a look at new web design predictions for 2017, which hopefully will help you design better websites.

1. Bright Colors & Gradients

2017 is definitely the year for super-rich gradient colors. Gradients and bright colours are already being implemented much more than in the past. We will also see many companies rebranded their own brand with bright bold colors. Instagram, Stripe and Asana are some good examples that already started.

2. Big Shadows

After a period with lighter shadows we now think it will turn around and give space for more bold shadows.

3.Big, Bold typography

Typography trends emerge every year, you can clearly see it on Dribbble, Behance, Pinterest, UX designers portfolio and corporate webpages of leading companies. Everyone is aware of the importance of typography in UX design. Much more than just arranging pretty fonts on a nice background, typography is an essential part of every design, it can make or break a whole project. It enhances your story, emotions you want to drive. It helps you to communicate the message to your users. This year we will see an increase in bold fonts.

4.Bye Bye, Hamburger Menus

I have really disliked the Hamburger menu, and I’m glad that many apps already ditched it. I always felt that it makes my applications more complicated and hard to navigate. In 2016, we saw many application stopped using the hamburger menu and instead started using a flat tab menus. Next year there is a big possibility that it will increase even further.

5. Micro-interactions

Micro-interactions such as scale interactions, commonly as little, on-screen activity are going to be an important part in UI and UX planning, particularly on mobile and small screen gadgets.

Micro-Interactions let users recognise what is occurring, what has happened, and what will happen next as they communicate with the UI. This will definitely increase as hardware getting better and design support libraries makes it easy for developers to implement.

6. Unusual Layouts & Grids

2017 will be more creative than last year. Designers seek new ways to make unique grids and layouts. Many of them overlapping typographical and graphical elements which makes the overall website unique in a competitive market.

7. Long Scrolling

Are you a long-scroll lover? This year we are going to see many without footer website with long scrollers. I personally think that long-scrolling websites are simple and intuitive. One step away from complex navigations, and a step towards a simpler, more user-friendly experience.

8.Advanced Animations

In 2016, we saw a rise in the use of animation in web design, and this year the trend will continued to grow. It’s gradually turning into a normal component, rather than an added extra, and it’s therefore an element of design that needs to be considered before, rather than after, the first concept is drafted.

Animations are more than just creating attention, it can be used as a direction to show users what their expected to do next. It’s a great way of making the user experience more enjoyable, and generally a bit easier.

9. Good bye, crappy stock images

The web is changing so fast, brands are now trying their own unique identity, illustrations and images for use in large headers, custom iconography and beautifully animated visuals. So it leaves no place for crappy, unimaginative stock images. One reason is great resources such as pexels are getting household among most people which provides great images for free. This is the year where images such as the above will stop appearing on any new website.

These are all of the trends we believe will be big for web design in 2017, but we want to hear from all of you! What are your predictions? can drop us comment.
