Machines & Humans: how will they co-exist? 🤖
Last Saturday, in the Officine Grandi Riparazioni in Turin, 800 bright minds answered this questions along with many others and together wrote the future at Visionary Days
Reply’s very own Stefano Galli, Associate Partner at Spring Reply, presented a keynote speech that explored Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and the future of how humans and robots will co-exist together.
As well as Stefano, other speakers — including Simone Ungaro, Anna Cereseto, Andrea Pezzi, Matteo Caccia, Andrea Daniele Signorelli, and Marco Savini — took to the stage to inspire hundreds of attendees. In between talks, attendees were divided into teams, and worked on writing the Live Book — a manifesto containing their thoughts and ideas based on one key question: Will everything be human?
The impact of the post industrial location, the lights, the music…did the rest!
What’s the DNA of a visionary mind? 🧠
We tried to answer this question using a giant. Using coloured threads participants could follow their own thinking, tell us who they were, and how they imagined the future.
Replyers from Concept, Target, Triplesense, and Protocube met Visionary and enjoyed the day all together and we’d like to tell you how we saw
What did you enjoy most about Visionary Days?
Andrea & Luca (Target Reply): “The amazing amount of people getting involved, the eagerness to embrace technology without being scared of it, keeping ethics in mind and an eye to the future. The choice of speakers, mixing tech and non-tech people, philosophy, ethics and linear algebra allowed to catch a glimpse of the complexity and charm of artificial intelligence.”
Matteo & Valerio (Protocube Reply): “The organisers focused on a format that was more engaging and more interactive — even visionary. The participants brought their ideas to life in a book in a single day, with the help of artificial intelligence: this is the proof. We have witnessed the beginning of one of the many scenarios that might happen in future. Perhaps human and machine discussing, more or less unconsciously, their own future together is closer than we think.”
Why did you attend the event?
Matteo & Valerio (Protocube Reply): “As Protocube Reply we took part in the event because we feel involved in the issue. We want to be active protagonists of the change taking place. Artificial Intelligence (for example), in a louder voice, asks us to look at her face and become aware of it. It is already part of the technologies we use and very soon it will involve more and more actors, none excluded. As designers, creative, but also technicians of digital arts, we are aware of how these innovations are increasingly impacting in everyday activities and it is important to able to design a shape of these.”
What makes this event so special?
Ginevra, Giulia, Martina, Simone (Triplesense Reply): “Lee, the AI who performed real-time transcriptions at the tables made the event pretty special”
Andrea & Luca: “The event is amazing. It’s not the classic conference where you listen to speakers and nor is it a geek or nerd hackathon. It’s a mixture, where the audience is ‘the event’. You could feel the will of 800 people wanting to build and share the future TOGETHER — building the future step by step over just 12 hours.”
What are the key takeaways for you?
Simone: “More awareness and understanding of today’s state-of-the-art robotics, genetics and technology and the scary but thrilling future that awaits, where young people can make a huge difference. And…a photo with Cristiana Capotondi :D”
Andrea & Luca: “First of all, the limitless possibilities, because there are now technologies that allow us to automate and do things we thought impossible a few years ago. Second, the most promising sector is healthcare: there are various applications already using AI to improve quality of life. Last but not least, ethics play an essential role: the technologies are beneficial but we have to make sure we avoid abusing them — could you imagine parents choosing the eye and hair colour of their children? Gosh! As AI lovers and advocates, we don’t want to see a new dawn in eugenics, but instead a genuine commitment to improving human lives. ”
Matteo & Valerio: “What we’re taking home is the theme of ethics. As designers, we have to people first and ask ourselves the meaning of what we do every day in our work. Sometimes, we should take 5 minutes: 2 minutes to think about our role in society and 3 minutes to ask what impact we’re having on it.”
All in all, it was a truly Visionary and one-of-a-kind event, which Reply was happy to help create and sponsor, because we believe in innovation and the future.
