Yay ! Finally a project !!!

Yea, that was me when Jack Anto asked me to do a short animation for Teachers' day.

At Report Bee, Teachers' day is a fest. I got a glimpse of it when Jeevanantham Jiva shared with me his experience designing for it, how lively it was working with everyone — not just the design team — from generating concepts to getting prints in sizes for the varied hierarchy of teachers. He even shared me insights on how he did his design. I was enthralled.

That was when we were just back from Nagalapuram, I presented Jack with a concept I was thinking for quite some time. This was the concept sketch,

Chalk deforms on repeated use. Here it forms a student face.

It was based on the idea that teachers mold students. I wanted to visualise it from the classroom I had been at, for 14 years. The influence of teachers on me persisted even at home, my grandmother and mother are teachers. Going off google really helped me on visualising it — atleast i think it did :P

Jack asked me to proceed with it as he felt the concept was unique.

Next up was an actual challenge.

I was into animating frame by frame — a traditional style of animation — and all I could do was visualise my concept in frames. Even planned to sketch them in frames.

But, was it the suitable style ?

This question made me come across stop motion animation, in this video.

A photo realistic animation giving the actual vibe of a classroom setup. A familiar setting for any teacher who comes across the animation to easily get the concept.

Frame

It was a little too late a realisation, as teachers' day was just five days away. I had to get a classroom setup up, shoot the frames, sequencing them, animating them.

Duh.

Luckily the white board in our design team room gave me ideas.

Black chart from my college, charger box of Jeevan Siva, Dany anna’s desk, carved chalks, people from Report Bee, my mobile

BTS

And it was a wrap.
