Have you always wanted to walk on water? Probably! What If I tell you that you can drive through the water? It sounds impossible, however it is not. There is one place on earth where you can do that. It is in Belgium, more precisely in Limburg. Among the numerous attractions in this cyclist’s paradise, the “Bicycle Through Water” feature stands out as a remarkable addition to the network of bicycle routes.

Limburg, a fairly beautiful region in Belgium, is located on the east side of the country. It offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and visitors can explore the idyllic countryside, visit castles and try out the Belgium cuisine. What stands out, however, are the great bike routes Limburg offers. There are more than 30 bike routes with over 2000 kilometers, there is something for everyone, from casual riders to experienced cyclists.

Limburg’s cycle route network is great to see various things and cycle through the beautiful nature. A part of the route cycle runs along the canal, which is a connection between Antwerp, where the second largest port in Europe is located, and Liege. The canal took 9 years to be dug by hand and was finished in 1939. King Albert the first opened the canal and it played a huge part in the second world war. Besides the canal is used for economic reason, it is also known for leisure activities, for example waterski or motorboat riding. Another attraction which is a part of the canal, is the biggest bridge, which connects Hasselt and Genk.

The “Bicycle Through Water” Attraction

One of Limburg’s most unique cycling attractions is the “Bicycle Through Water” route. Located in Bokrijk, a domain that combines nature and culture. The pathway is constructed as a concrete passage, creating a surreal experience where cyclists ride directly through a large pond. This 212 meter long path allows you to stand literally in the water, of course without getting wet. You will be on eye level with ducks and swans, an extraordinary experience, which was also recommended by the American Time Magazine as one of the “World Greatest Places to visit”.

The surrounding environment of the “Bicycle Through Water” attraction is as well remarkable. The landscape of the nature, the surrounding of trees and the silence of water will get you a very comforting feeling.

The “Bicycle Through Water” attraction is accessible to cyclists of all skill levels, making it perfect for families, solo riders, and groups of friends. However always be careful when cycling with others and also take care of animals, because the nature is their only habitat.

Bike café’s and Museums

This special bike route also offers a visit in the open-air museum. If you want to know how people lived back in the days, then the open-air museum is worth a visit. The museum is located in a 550 hectare park and you will see rebuilding’s of houses from the past. Moreover, the museum offers workshop, so you can get to work yourself.

Cycling can be very exhausting so you need to take breaks. Luckily in Limburg are located Bicycles cafes, which are not only good for a rest, but also if you have a problem with your bike, a flat tire or no air in it, the bicycle café will help you.

Whether you are a professional cyclist or simply looking for a unique way to connect with nature, Limburg’s bicycle road, with the “Bicycle Through Water” attraction, is a must-visit destination. Whether you search a moment of tranquility, a taste of local culture, or a just an adventure on two wheels, Limburg’s bicycle road has it all.
