Belgium is known for a lot of things: beautiful cities, historical monuments etc. But also because of its music. Big artist, festivals, parties are things that you can find in this country.

Music is a cultural thing which all the countries are proud of. Belgium has and has had so many talented musicians. A top 5 of Belgian artists and bands that are famous around the world:

1. Soulsister

Undoubtedly one of the most important bands in modern Belgian history, Soulsister, formed by Jan Leyers and Paul Michiels started in 1986. They split in 1995 and then reunited in 2007. Similar to Rick Astley, Toto or a-ha, their sound is described as a mixture of soul, pop and funk.

2. Lasgo

Our way leads through history to the late 90’s. A new movement of house music is rising. In Spain we have “la ruta del bacalao” and here the beat is more constant and commercial. Lasgo has its own place in this kind of trance music, with vocalist Evi Goffin and her sharp voice.

3. Stromae

Let’s change again the flure of music. Born in Brussels in 1985, this artist became popular in 2009 with his hit single Alors on dance, known all over the world. Another one of his hits is Papaoutai. His type of music is rap with some new beat and electro style. Stromae has his roots in Africa, this also can be seen and heard in his music.

4. Gotye

Gotye is that kind of artist that you know more for a song that he made, than for his name or career. Somebody that I used to know was in 2011 one of the most popular hits around the world. Catalogued as an indie-pop artist, Gotye (born in Bruges in 1980) spent most of his life in Australia, but he says he feels as Belgian as french-fries.

5. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike

The Thivaios brothers started their carreer in 2006 giving the crowd a hardstyle EDM rhythm. Passing through the years, their sound started to be more commercial, culminating in becoming the number 1 of the “DjMag magazine” list, the most important hit-list in electro music.

Finally, I just want to give you the chance to learn to know one of my favorite artists here in Belgium who is just 21 years old and just started his career. With such a relaxing genre called “softrock”.
