Weekly Wrap-Up

Good evening friends,

This week, I fought hard on a number of bills that would reduce the cost of healthcare for Central Virginians by helping get cheaper, generic prescription drugs to consumers, giving you more choices in health insurance, and more. Please keep scrolling for a brief update and thank you, as always, for sharing in the work I’m doing for the people of Virginia’s Seventh District.

WHAT I’M WORKING ON

On Tuesday, I backed the Medicare-X Choice Act, a bill that would increase choice and lower premiums for Central Virginians under the age of 65. For too many Americans, limited health insurance competition has made high-quality healthcare unaffordable — particularly in rural areas. This commonsense bill would expand access to affordable coverage for all Americans under 65. Read more about it here.

On Monday, I cosponsored the CREATES Act, a bipartisan bill that would drive down prescription drug costs by cracking down on the anti-competitive practices that big pharmaceutical companies use to prevent cheaper generic drugs from getting to the market. Learn more about the plan here.

On Thursday, I helped pass the Climate Action Now Act. Our nonpolitical military and intelligence experts agree that climate change is a real threat to our national security. This bill fights to protect Central Virginia’s clean air and water and reasserts American leadership around the world. Dig deeper into the bill here.

Tell me about your experience with broadband internet access

I recently launched the 2019 Rural Broadband Survey to gather firsthand stories from my constituents about how a lack of reliable, rural internet infrastructure is impacting them. Take the survey and share your story! This feedback will help shape how I move forward on this issue.
