Republican Women for Progress Issue Statement on Trump Racist Tweets, Call for Passage of House Resolution Condemning Tweets.

WASHINGTON — Following the President’s tweets on Saturday, Republican Women for Progress issued this statement and called on the House to pass the resolution condemning the President for those tweets.

“Over the weekend, President Trump went on a racist Tweet storm suggesting that four Democratic Congresswomen should ‘go back’ to the countries ‘from which they came,’ countries which he has previously referred to as ‘shitholes.’ Ignoring the fact that three of the four women were born in the U.S., and all four are dutifully elected Members of Congress with all the same rights to the First Amendment that the president has, Trump’s tweets are shocking, albeit not surprising. Perhaps more shocking is the silence from Republicans on the issue. Not one seems to be able to find the strength to condemn what is certainly hate speech coming directly from the Office of the President.

Refusing to stand up and speak out against Trump’s ever-increasingly divisive and morally-void rhetoric speaks directly to the void of courage and morality among elected Republicans. Silence is complicity. Republican Women for Progress absolutely denounce this language from the president and urge other Republicans to do the same. Until Republican leaders challenge the president’s overt racism, tensions will only continue to worsen, Americans will continue to be harmed, and the Republican Party and the country will continue on their backwards, xenophobic slide.

We call on the House to pass the Malinowski-Raskin resolution condemning President Trump for these blatantly racist tweets.”
