Women to Watch: Amie Hoeber, Candidate for Maryland’s Sixth District

Amie Hoeber has a built a career based on service to her country and to her community. When her Congressman announced his retirement, Hoeber saw the opportunity to apply her experience to serve the 6th District of Maryland.
Hoeber served as the Deputy Under Secretary of the Army during the Reagan Administration. In this position, she oversaw research and development programs to provide better defenses against chemical, biological, and nuclear threats. This experience cemented her reputation as a national security and counter-terrorism expert. Hoeber firmly believes that we have an obligation to the brave men and women who have served this country. She will be a champion for veterans in Washington.
Following her service to the Reagan Administration, Hoeber founded a small business dedicated to consulting on best practices for defense, homeland security, and environmental remediation. As a small business owner, Hoeber understands the challenges that government regulations can impose. She will work to make it easier to start and maintain small businesses, which are vital to the economic health of communities.
Hoeber has spent her career being a tireless advocate and champion for women. While at the Department of Defense, she worked to create more opportunity for women to advance within the Army and other branches of the armed forces. She co-founded the National Women’s Political Caucus Virginia chapter to promote women in politics and CLONE to mentor women in the defense industry. Hoeber has also worked to protect vulnerable women. For more than a decade, she served on the board for the House of Ruth Maryland, which provides aid to women and children experiencing intimate partner abuse.
A graduate of Stanford University, Hoeber and her husband, Mark, live in Potomac, Maryland and raised their sons in the community.
