Women to Watch: Dr. Jennifer Hoppe Vipond, Candidate for Wisconsin’s 5th District

This profile is part of Republican Women for Progress’ Women to Watch series, which highlights Republican women running for office in 2018 who are committed to working through the legislative process in a bipartisan way in order to create effective policy at the local, state, and national levels.

Dr. Jennifer Hoppe Vipond, candidate for Wisconsin’s 5th Congressional District

Dr. Jennifer Hoppe Vipond is running to represent Wisconsin’s 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. According to Dr. Vipond, “I would like to bring back a Congress where the constituents are more influential than special interests and where evidence-based policymaking replaces fear mongering and divisiveness.”

During her 27 years as a pediatrician, Dr. Vipond has served approximately 15,000 families in Wisconsin’s 5th District. Throughout her career, Dr. Vipond has witnessed ever-increasing health care costs and the immediate burden it has placed on Wisconsin’s families. As a physician, she would be uniquely equipped to tackle these healthcare issues. In addition to rising health care costs, Dr. Vipond also wants to tackle the opioid epidemic and uncontrolled prescription drug prices when she is elected to Congress.

Her background has not only informed her views on public health policy, but also the challenges faced by the business community as a small business owner. Dr. Vipond supported the 2017 tax reform package specifically because of the tax cuts for corporations and small businesses. These reductions have allowed small businesses to remain competitive and have led to record lows for unemployment. She also understands that businesses are only as strong as the available workforce. For that reason, she has worked with schools and local leaders to better connect young people with the specific training required for local jobs.

Dr. Vipond and her husband Mark raised their six children in Wisconsin’s 5th District. They exercised school choice and would support that option for all Wisconsin families.
