Bold strokes from inspirational folks. The arts, regardless of whether we’re talking about film, television, music, digital media, live theatrical productions, or even literature, is often inspired by some of the most unlikely of occurrences. J.R.R. Tolkien, for example, drew much inspiration for The Lord of the Rings from his experiences in the trenches during what was then known as The Great War.

“Over the years I have had the opportunity to publish my writing about karate training via a small book,” Beddow wrote, “and I was also invited to write three magazine articles…”

There is little doubt, given how the pandemic impacted much of the British Isles in various ways, lockdowns had a lasting effect on Britons everywhere. Fortune, as the saying goes, favours the bold. Max Beddow, a 6th Dan black belt in Goju Ryu Karate and a lifelong friend, was forced into isolation as a direct result of catching COVID-19.
