How to install Cyanogenmod Android Lollipop CM12 on Nexus 5 Hammerhead

Cyanogenmod finally released the version of the CM12 nightly which is an Android L based ROM. This released version is called a nightly and is not labelled as a stable release. This does not mean that the rom is unstable, it just means that this is an automatically composed repository. There may a few little insignificant bugs here and there but it’ll work great if you keep your device updated. Here are the steps to getting this ROM on your phone.

WARNING — ROOTING DEVICES AND FLASHING ROMS MAY VOID YOUR WARRANTY AND MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE. PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR DURING THE PROCESS. THIS PROCESS WAS TESTED SUCCESSFULLY WITH THE GOOGLE NEXUS 5 HAMMERHEAD. Step 1 — Download the latest build from the cyanogenmod downloads page http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=hammerhead

Step 2 — Transfer downloaded file to sdcard root folder on your device Step 3 — Enable USB Debugging Mode

  1. Go to- Settings > About Phone
  2. Repeatedly tap the build number until the confirmation dialog says — Developer mode enabled
  3. Now go back to the main settings menu and click — Developer Options > Enable Usb Debugging

Step 4 — (If your device is not already rooted) Root your device CF Auto Root is a great tool for hassle free rooting. Download CF AutoRoot for Nexus 5 here http://download.chainfire.eu/363/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hammerhead-hammerhead-nexus5.zip Step 5 — Reboot the phone into bootloader mode Power off the phone and power on holding the power and volume down button simultaneously. Step 6 — Run root script Now unzip the downloaded file and follow instructions specific to your operating system below. For Windows Click on root-windows.bat For Mac Open up the terminal type — sh root-mac.sh For Linux Open up the terminal type — root-linux.sh Hit enter to run the script. If all goes well your phone will now be rooted. Step — 7 Download ClockworkMod Rom Manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager&hl=en Step 8 — Using ClockworkMod to Flash the ROM

  1. Open the app
  2. Click — recovery setup
  3. Click — install or update recovery
  4. Click — clockworkmod recovery
  5. Now navigate to the app home page
  6. Click — install rom from sd card
  7. select rom zip file
  8. Check the tab that says — Wipe data and cache
  9. Click — reboot and install

During this process you may encounter this prompt root acces may be lost.fix root? click NO Your phone should now be running Cyanogenmod CM12 Step 8 — Download and install Gapps Gapps is not officially released by cyanogenmod.   1. Copy the downloaded zip to the sdcard root folder
  2. Repeat Step 5 to boot into Recovery Mode.
  3. Click choose a zip from /sdcard
  4. Choose folder ‘0’
  5. Navigate to and click the gapps zip file
  6. Click to start install.
  7. Once completed, click ‘Go Back’ and click ‘Reboot Now’
