today’s work, tomorrow’s question (day 13)
you prepare with thick socks
and phone numbers
written on skin
you walk until you can’t
pressing against stranger and lovers
until you are too many
to be ignored
and if they ignore you
you scream and yell
until they flinch
forced to hear you
even if they dismiss
your existence
together you stand
against a rain that won’t
stop falling,
huddled yet defiant,
a fist breaking the sky
but tomorrow is coming
with monsters still hiding
in the ceiling
eager for you to sit down
and forget
today you were a beautiful storm
but what will you be tomorrow?
a forest fire unable to stop burning?
a silent summer sky
bright and dry?
whatever you choose
don’t forget
the power between
your hands
