Absolute Power
Corrupts absolutely
what is this all about power
we obsess about it
we dream about it
we fight to acquire it
we seem to revel in it
the power to rule
the power to influence
the power to create
the power to destroy
and the power
to be at peace
every being is a power
with a life force in itself
how we harness this power
is always up to us
power resides in our every choice
it is ours to give
we choose gods to be almighty
we choose kings to be tyrants
we choose leaders to be dictators
power we lend to them
disguised in our hopes
in our trust and love
in our envy and rage
in a game of life and soccer
power is distributed
power to defense
power to offence
and power to play the field
but when the power gets
accumulated and concentrated
in any captain of ours
that’s when we pay the cost
that’s when the game is lost
