As we question the wisdom of vigilante citizenry
I dare to argue: there isn’t any
As in the case of Ahmaud Arbery
A black man gunned down by a mob of white men
While jogging in his neighborhood.

The details are even more horrific
His killers somehow ex-law officers
They claimed they were attacked but you know
The truth is: he was black.

This headline quickly buried under the piles of COVID speculation.
Including a curious ‘COVID researcher died
In apparent murder-suicide.’
Bing Liu, 37
A hasty paragraph on his way to heaven.

The New Jersey briefing contains a daily report
Of citations given to people breaking quarantine laws
One woman, in a nursing home, spat in her own hand, and
smeared saliva on the walls.

One woman kept her nail salon open
so she could feed her family of five
Citizen policing alerted the authorities
A jealous rival, perhaps?

In Texas, a security guard killed for enforcing mask-wearing
What in the world are we doing here?
I guess there’s even a Facebook group to report people
who are going to the beach in Florida.
