I.
believe the canvass is yours,
ignore the science of light
so you cannot see color
lies within your white.

II.
draw ropes
like happy
little trees

draw guns
like happy
little bees.

III.
paint red shadows
on quiet little streets
paint hummingbirds feeding
on tiny little treats

paint a lonely raven
beneath happy little clouds
paint fruits of dark flesh
in its happy little mouth.

IV.
they’ll rinse the paint from those streets
help wash your happy little hands
tell the world about your fear
and the happy ground on which you stand

wipe the oils up with flags
and pile them in their basements
and when they burst into flames
blame the fires on poor maintenance.

V.
tell happy little stories
of ancestors who arrived
with just their pictures.

(happily given everything
to manifest themselves
just the n*gger.)
