Backed by the West, supplied by a callous
British government which really doesn’t give
A damn about a people without status,
Including the ones who elected them in,
A Saudi regime, accused of crimes against humanity,
Enjoying the fruits of western democracy,
Bombing mothers, children and charity run hospitals,
Fully initiated into the boys’ club, testing the latest
Weaponry on those deemed lesser than human.

The pride of the Middle East, ignoring the plight
Of their Palestinian brothers and sisters,
Snuggly fitting into the pockets of their sponsors.
And why wouldn’t you when misogynist, oppressive
Leaders get to do whatever they want,
Blessed by the West, looking the other way this time,
And the next, just let them know it’s safe to turn around.

Again, ignored aid agencies and the people of Yemen,
Struggling to contain a Western-backed crisis where
Death, starvation and disease is not their problem.
Do excuse me, bombs in the hands of hedonistic leaders
Are your problem, leaders who flaunt their religious teachings
In the name of wealth and power, feck, you would think you were all
Reading From the same old testament. Brothers in arms.

Thank you Meg for giving my words a platform here at Resistance Poetry.
Thank you all for reading and your precious time. Always. J.
