beauty and affliction

And as the drifts settle
the coldness of ice draws breath
and though its life is analogous, it’s life just the same
How does it speak?
A leaf, dancing over the snow
rain drops bouncing off concrete
a wave cresting over the ocean
and as life stirs, it settles
a calm breath
a silent tear
a child at the window
and though it feels like longing
that which longs, is never apart from which it longs for
and though it feels like pain
that which hurts is never apart from the infliction
And in this infinity
between cause and effect
lies the flowering and blooming
the death and the rebirth
