Becoming Human

What if the cold winds embraced
Made your senses tingle
Stripped the icicles from your heart
Made you feel hyper alive?

What if feeling unloved
Under appreciated
Unhugged by the universe
Caused you to try that much harder

What if instead of Frankenstein
Unlike landmines in your mind
Unlike men with tiki torches
Came a heightened cry for justice

What if seeing others’ pain
Created a sense of community
What if your hippocampus
Lit up like a tree at Christmas

What if left unfettered
Your soul became rejuvenated
Filled your lungs with pure spring air
Flowered and reseeded

What if instead of strangers
You saw only similarities
When you looked at others
You simply saw yourself

How might that feel
