“Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.” — George Orwell 1984.

The big techs go unchecked and let run wild,
Claiming self-governance while the whole world
Becomes addicted to their enticing screens of distraction.

Manipulated by writers who have no intention of allowing
Their own offspring to be dragged along in the same Tsunami
Of children ruining their lives in a desire for glamour and a whole
Fifteen seconds of fame.

Nothing comes for free as the big techs claim,
Accounts with free apps? Build your avatar, replacing personality,
For one to hide behind. Only the big brains know the real us,
While the apps continue to devour the soul.

Refusing to allow governments to tag us, force us to use
Identity cards, we gave up our movements freely,
Saving them a fortune on technology, our private data and
Our freedom now dropped into their laps, signed, sealed and delivered.

No more fair election campaigns, as the big techs control information tailored For each individual through social media manipulation.

Big techs growing larger by the year, already the most successful and
Profitable enterprise in human history when they discovered
A fail-safe system of building their stumbled upon powerful empires,
Investing in human behaviour, the most bankable of all commodities.

For now.

Thanks to Suntonu Bhadra for his piece on the social dilemma and reminding me to write this piece on big tech manipulation. Read Suntonu’s important piece here.

Thank you Meg for giving my words a platform here at Resistance Poetry.
Thank you all for reading and your precious time. J.
