Change From Within Only Works for Incumbents
A poem
--
How do we change
A place without range
That’s called the system
Here’s some wisdom.
We tell ourselves
And nothing else
To change from within
To try to come in
The corporate world
The American world
Climb up the ladder
Or you will shatter.
It’s easy for me
I’m white of thee
Don’t forget male
We make the sale.
Have you ever seen
A girl Colleen
In sales compartments
Of corporate departments?
Girls don’t sell
It’s true as well
They tend to yell
Over the sales bell.
It’s true
And nothing new
That us guys
Have it nice
Our yelling
Is selling
But for girls
It’s all hurls.
How can they succeed
With as much ease
As people like me
Who have it free?
It’s one example
Of many samples
Of us pretending
And we’re mending
That our place
We can grace
You shall win with merit
When guys inherit
A system’s awards
That only rewards
The incumbent
Who’s triumphant.
Change from within
Is only a win
For the white guy
Who doesn’t need to try.
