Decolonise
This continent was a vast, diverse network
of forests, wetlands, rivers
and 250 nations
until James Cook declared it would be
a colony.
What’s a colony?
Outpost, protectorate, dependency,
or an occupied territory,
somewhere simply stolen,
someone else’s home?
When white devils came and claimed
the trees, women and lives,
in exchange for sheep, sickness and lies,
they thought they had the right.
What made them so entitled?
This land’s still under attack.
Rivers dry up, forests die back,
but the old nations rise up.
Finally, we’ll have to see
it’s time to decolonise.
