Distraction
Maybe the makeup and Maybelline and the ‘beauty’ they bring
are just make believe
and they’re there to distract us
and make us dream to ‘perfect’ how we look and behave
as it seems
that a physical realm is the one that relates
and it’s bodies and faces
that most stimulate our desires and our actions
in spurious ways
so we’re always in search of new ways we can stay
in the ‘prime’ of our beauty no matter the cost,
trading money and health
with no thought for the loss
of the state of our souls and our minds
down the line
because Maybelline tells us that all will be fine
if we pamper ourselves in these colours and smells
and we lose loads of weight so our bellies don’t swell,
only then
we’ll find love and start feeling complete
and without it
we’re destined to always feel weak
so we fill up our minds with these worries
and find insecurities
making us sheltered and blind
from the fact that we’re beautiful
just how we are
as we’re made of the same stuff that makes up the stars.
