So finally the Court has now acknowledged
That love, not bigotry should rule the land –
All families who love well and desire
To marry may now have the lives they planned.
But when you call this The Defining Issue,
This generation’s most defining right,
My head and heart together cry for justice
For those who’ve been much longer in the fight.
Ratification of the E.R .A.
Failed through indifference or through fear — who knows?
But fail it did and you who still ignore that
Sad fact should know your ignorance — it shows.
Over half of each new generation
Still lives as second-class in this great nation.
