Exile

Words for the survivors

For souls abandoned,
wanderers betrayed and forgotten,
exiled to the valley of the unremembered,
where the banished roam forever.

People that search for acceptance,
for a home they can call their own,
having fled from their motherland,
escaping ethnic genocide.

Refugees are survivors, victims of abusers,
they risk their lives to cross oceans
not because their marauders seeking bounty,
it is their homes that have been pillaged,
they are not the ones that seek to plunder.

Perhaps if the world had assisted
and had not ignored their cries for help,
or armed the warlords that seek to harm them,
then maybe they would not have left their countries.
