Inspired by LaMar’s prompt: Synchronicity

Here I sit
Reading a chapter on Hillary in Iowa
Listening to Rachel read a quote from
Clapper’s book about how we lost
How Russia made sure Trumpkin won
Hearing Flake speak against Trumpkin
Hearing Guliani say “The truth is relative”
Back and forth my brain goes
Trying to make sense of recent history

Where did we go wrong?
When did synchronicity switch
From helping bring us together
From helping us be the best country
To a country where what is best
For the president and his cronies
Is what they consider to be best
A country where citizens are only
Considered patriotic if they stand
For the anthem, if they follow
The president’s wishes instead of
The law and the constitution
If they do what makes the rich
Richer and the poor poorer
