Little gratitude for Irma’s visit,
Upending lives, churning loss —
Yet, in the worry, chaos
And heartbreak,
A few days,
A few hours,
Irma’s intended
Did not think of him,
Followed weather news,
Not political tweets,
Thought of life and love,
Not hate and fear.

A few days,
A few hours,
Thinking of Irma,
Forgetting him.

There is a hint of gratitude
In the darkest hours.

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
