I Can’t Stop Touching My Face! 😱

by Joe Váradi

how often did I touch my face today?
let me count the ways …

in my sleep at three a.m.
must have been a bout of phlegm

once again at six o’clock
sleepy eyelids to unlock

once during my floss routine
then while consuming caffeine

once to diagnose a dimple
then to rub a pesky pimple

once to swat a fly away
it was bugging me, okay?

during meetings, stroked my chin
to appear smarter, therein

fidgeted with my eyebrows
while the daily news I browsed

got a headache — pressed my forehead
into grimaces distorted

twice, to extract contact lenses
faceplant — watching The Apprentice

by nature I’m self-tactile
resistance is, well, futile …!
