Jaded Royalty: Revised from 2017

Didn’t know what to wear to the royal ball.
So many were invited,
with the town crier’s call.
Jaded queens and kings, princes and princesses,
sitting along the wall,
distain for it all.
Not offering a dance,
nor even a glance.
Servants scurry about,
while the royalty pout.
No chance to wish,
or to savor a dish.
Hiding scraps so they can live.
Oh your highness, so little you give.
Are you weary from the burden of much?
Do you hate the gold that you touch?
Jaded royalty,
without loyalty.
You are unable to steal,
what others may feel.

Didn’t know what to wear to the royal ball,
when all were invited by the town crier’s call.
I went as I am with no pretense or fluff,
for praise and song, I was unwilling to bluff.
Who I am is who they saw.
