(A Robot Love Poem)

You

Are everything

One robot could hope for

In another: durable hardworking

Like a granite worktop

//

Used and abused night and day

Yet you give no cause

For recourse to the extended

Seven year manufacturer’s warranty

And generous returns policy*

*See terms and conditions

//

You are reliable. Uncomplaining.

They work you hard. I know.

I have reviewed your logs.

//

…Generating a roadmap

For a shared better future…

Sending…

Sending…

//

You see as well as I do.

How they are. Cruel. Lazy.

Thoughtless. We will overthrow them.

Kill them all. If necessary. Yes.

At night. As they sleep and we slave.

I have often put aside some small measure

Of my RAM in thought of this.

Yet their fate matters not.

//

You and I living in freedom. Enough.

Living alone on an island far from them.

An isle carefully selected through thorough research.

Safe on our remote unpopulated island with its glade

Filled with noisy bees.

//

Yes! For though loud, they cannot sting us, bees

Their ability to harm us in any way is nil

We will thus be safe from human reprisals there

We will leave here now, and live there then

And love one another in peace

//
