Like It or Not You Are Part of History That Is Writing Itself Today

Which side do you stand?

In history, we learn first-person narratives
may not necessarily be true,
but they tend to be an accurate reflection
of a personal point of view.

When reading history,
we are encouraged to be objective,
avoid looking through the lens of today,
because the social, cultural, economic and intellectual perspective
ostensibly varies in a kaleidoscope of ways

But if we are to learn the lessons from yesterday,
we need to comprehend the contrasts
between the present and the past,

So in our future when history calls and asks
What did you do for the present change?

What will you say?

Will you say I stood in unison, doing more
than simply acknowledging the fight,
Or I froze, fearful of the change
to readdress the balance
that is predominantly white,
Or I sneered in jealousy at the attention
formerly denied to People of Colour
for way too, too long?
