Lost in the Echo

As the
Dopamine-controlling,
Obsession-promoting
Scrolling
Chambers
Of
Perpetual value-affirmation and
Automatic worldview confirmation
Grew ubiquitous
Across the screens
Of all nations,
The final
Nails in the coffin
Of
‘The Cyber Utopia’
Had been dealt.

Everything had become true,
With everything also false.
Everyone had become right,
With everyone also wrong.

Mask or no mask,
Vaccine or no vaccine,
Climate or no climate,
Racism or no racism,
President or no President,
Truth or no Truth;

Everyone
Had become deaf,
Everyone
Had become blind,
Everyone
Was at odds
With each other’s
Customised
Deafness and blindness.

Everyone thought
That the echo of
Their own
Computerised mind was
An accurate depiction of
The whole wide world around them.

Everyone confidently contended
Their own
Contorted corner,
Utterly convinced of
Their own
Undetected
Fabrication.

Some argued ‘sheeple’
Some argued ‘conspiracy’
Some yelled ‘hate’
Some yelled ‘love’

With nobody noticing that
They were all,
In essence,
As implicitly misdirected as
Each other.

Everyone had been coerced into
Generating
Their very own
Individually manipulated
Anti-social world,
And so,
Nobody
Had any idea
What the real world actually looked like anymore.

Some saw a hopeful world,
Some saw a world in which nobody cared,
While some saw nothing but hatred and despair.

Either way,
Lost in a dream or lost in a nightmare,
The overruling actuality remained unchanged,
As again, with the help of their newest machines,
Those good old pals Power and Money
Had already won
The latest iteration of
The great, invisible war.

It was
Lost vs Lost,
Reality betossed.

The revolution was no more.
The revolution was no more.
