Manifest Destinies

I find myself thinking
About that one bit
That the Bible got wrong
A very important bit
Where god created man in his image

I’m afraid
It’s the other way around

And just as we create a god
Whose desires and jealousies echo our own
So too do we create the devil
To reflect our darkest natures

Mammon exists
Because we have manifested him
He is us
Amplified
Seven billion fold
If we are living in end times
It is because we have created them

We have always manifested our destinies
Assembled their sinewy shadows
From the formless ether
And when they come clawing out of the pit
We scream in horror
For deep within
We know exactly what they are made of
And nothing could be more terrifying
Than the worst of us
Unleashed upon the world at last
Ravenous, unyielding
Limitless greed, selfishness, and violence
