Nevertheless, we still persist

Reading a letter into the record
McConnell made Senator Warren stop
He didn’t like the letter, its writer,
The woman reading it
He tried to explain:
“She was given an explanation.
Nevertheless, she persisted”

A year later, Representative Pelosi
Made an 8 hour speech about DACA
Standing in heels the whole time
A speech about why this country
Needs to find a way to save the innocent
The people who we promised could stay.
“Nevertheless, she persisted”

For a year, we have persisted
For a year, we have resisted
For a year, we have known
Things need to change
For a year, we have worked
To change things, to make them better
Nevertheless, we all persist

When do we get to relax?
When will the battle be over?
Not until President Trump is gone
Along with all his chronies
All his one percent friends
All the people he fooled
Until then, we must persist
