He raised his voice again
She remained silent again
The child stood in the corner watching
He will wet his bed again

She was relaxed
He did not raise his hand
She would sleep without pain
She was convinced
It was all her mistake again

Another day came
He lost his temper again
The food was not up to his standard
He threw it away again
She cooked another meal for him again

After he left for the office
The child asked her in a shaking voice
‘Can I go and live with my friend?
Her mother is strong. I will be safe.’

The child’s words shook her soul
Filled her eyes with shame
She promised to herself
No tolerance for abuse in life again
