Pantomime Horses

Carnival horses stapled to their carousel
running in circles
faces long and growing old
well I’ve seen their eyes roll back to whites

they drive away somewhere
to save their manes of hair
somewhere else

trapped in their courses
cursed for every lie they said
wishing for sugar they can’t eat with plastic heads
