It is an interesting time in our country
a dog is honored in the White House
the president blasts dictates on Twitter
The chief executive is a billionaire who despises
blacks and browns (except for the special kind that
don’t seem black or brown, just like they have
a tan gone wrong. And he can relate to that)
The other ones, the regular B&Bs
he thinks of them as subhuman
the spawns of shit-hole factories
Argue with him and he says
Go back to your country
even if your country is
Florida or Pennsylvania
California or New York
He says this without
a laugh, not even getting the idiocy
behind his words. He means it and that’s
what’s worse. That he has no comprehension
of geography or rights of citizenship
or history humanity or basic principles
of reasonableness and rationality
It is a country in which a billionaire
can sleep in the Oval Office
tweet misspellings
make up lies and have
millions of citizens believing them
even when they know they are lies
and in the next tweet contradicts
himself and doesn’t see anything wrong
with the lack of consistency in his tales
He’s a spider
get comfortable in his web
It’s a joke. But so are we
He laughs. He laughs. We sigh
And pray
Others laugh with him
And rub their hands together
And pray
So much money to be made
If only this pesky coronavirus would
go away
