Rain, by Bruce Jacobs (used with permission)

Girls stand in the rain
Scouts remembering other
Scouts whose lives were cut short
Long before they had even lived

Macron stands in the rain
Remembering those who gave
Everything to save the world
From a war that tore it apart

Other leaders stand in the rain
Thankful for the sacrifice
Made by those buried there
Respectful of their memories

Trump doesn’t stand in the rain
Doesn’t understand why
Anyone would go out
In such weather

Today we think of that great day
One hundred years ago
When the killing stopped
And the world rejoiced

Those who fought in the rain
Snow, sleet, mud, danger
Have earned our highest regard
Living or dead, you matter to us

Thank you for your service
Your sacrifice was not in vain
We remember you today
And wish for peace again

The behavior of our president during the weekend’s events in honor of the veterans of WWI — which ended 100 years ago today.
