Take a knee

Phillip T Stephens
Resistance Poetry

--

and realize you bow
before a sea of
resentment.

listen for the rattling sound of
chains to which they bound you
and now beg you to bear willingly
on your back as though you wear
a display of contentment

look into bewildered faces
confused because you won’t
embrace your chains but
rattle them. You’re rich,
you’re free and should only be
the evening’s entertainment.
