Your voice

Is a choice

Between life

Or a knife

In the heart

Of the part

That’s colored

But you’re bothered

By the protest

The unrest

You don’t choose

What’s on the news.

You miss life

Without strife

Without looting

Or shooting

That’s not new

It’s just not true

In your reality

That’s a fallacy.

We’re taught

We’re brought

From the start

In the part

Of our lives

In the dives

Of the classroom

We’re groom

That racism

Like fascism

Is of the past

It doesn’t last.

The Civil War

It brought to bore

A subtle lesson

That’s depressin’

To hope for progress

Not for regress

That racism is of the past

It shall not last.

In school

It’s cool

To show

Not know

That racism

Like fascism

Is of yesterday

Not today.

We never learn

What we should yearn

That it’s here

We shall fear

That racism

Like fascism

Was both yesterday

And today.
