Samson and the Lion, Rubens

the Luckless Samson

played splayed made forlorn
hopeful filled but stilled by scorn
a nation’s station bugled horn
battered smattered rifled

jelled propelled to futures past
gloating bloating holding fast
outraged staged totally wholly cast
the flighty blighty stifled

handsome samson’s mighty flair
flowered powered by lengthy hair
commandeered then sheared with care
by ruthless bootless fools

fawning pawns for selfish sake
parade and trade in heroes’ wake
patient merit the unworthy take
use contuse the wise as tools

resilience brilliance wears a mask
lest he be bested taken to task
hidden ridden gone to flask
pasted wasted placed in the dark

foolish ghoulish suggestive memes
giving to living by hapless schemes
shallow callow drooling dreams
the luckless pluckless saddened lark

The Homunculi of Doctor Pretorius, Ernest Thesiger in Bride of Frankenstein, 1935

hail to the queef!

heat seeking fire breathing havoc wreaking blues
one has to wonder why people would choose
the biggest stick of dynamite with the shortest fuse
a seething sensation of nothing to lose?

hearts and minds heavy beleaguered by sin
disheveled by lies deceived by spin
boys making noise in voluminous din
only god knows the trouble we’re in

amidst a depressing constitutional rout
the fake-ness of greatness is readily spout
a dictator is in and the rule of law out
a fertile field for revolution or anarchy to sprout

friends romans citizens rend thee your tears
caesar the conqueror is awaiting thy cheers
allay alienation disenfranchise thy fears
put up thine armaments lay down thy spears

if I may be so bold a suggestion is please
apply the solution get up off your knees
the potion the notion despite all decrees
is to seek out thy neighbor and see as he sees
