They say we are in the slow good-bye:
It was fun for a bit, Capitalism.
One-hundred-fifty-years-plus-ism
Western world wide live Free or die.
An experiment in human half misery —
And not so that the other half may thrive;
No, much less than that.

And so we say our prayers post
Most dutiful flick o’ the light:
In the name of the Dollar, the Sum,
The Wholly-Owned Subsidiary.
(Amen)
Deliver us now from the evil
Of Bills come due.
(Amen)
Forgive us our Greed that we
May not forgive anyone, ever.
(Amen)
And lead us back to a not-new-normal
So we can pretend.
So we can pretend
That happiness
Should
Be
Bought.
