Twenty Nineteen

Twenty Nineteen, what a year
Ain’t seen nothin’ yet, I fear

Forest fires rage down under
Blunder upon climate blunder

Seas awash in plastic waste
Nature spoiled and defaced

Hate crimes creeping on the rise
Civility in demise

Schools and Walmarts: shooting ranges
Mass outcry and nothing changes

Strongmen reigning ‘round the world
Ped’ling fake news, undeterred

Hong Kong drowns in street protests
France, Chile, Mid East unrest

North Korea nuke talks stalled
Southern borders loosely walled

Boris won, and Brexit served
Brits got more than they deserved

Obstruction, abuse of power —
Impeached from the ivory tower

Is there yet a ray of hope?
We’ll need a taller periscope …

so, not much different from two years ago
