The pinkest blossoms fall
on the greyest streets
every hundred yards or so
to commemorate the last know bee.

The library is named
for the first one to fasten
the silhouettes of owls
to a phone tree.

Shopping for mirrors
requires a light touch,
housing a parakeet
makes windows an enemy.

The thoughtless have wandered
into new parts of town.
The abandoned crust of earth
turns a deaf eye to stars.

We had time and when
we didn’t water ran uncommon.
To hope is to spare
no expense.

Like the sun comedians
turn everything.
The laughing cough
always gets her man.
